Parental responsibility is defined as, “All the rights, duties, powers and responsibility and authority which by law a parent of a child has in relation to the child and his property”.
Parental responsibility extends to issues, for example, of where your child lives, which school he/she will attend and what medical treatment should be given.
When a relationship breaks down between parties, it can be a worrying, uncertain time for unmarried fathers, particularly those not named on the Birth Certificate.
We can help you obtain parental responsibility. When considering such an application, the Court will look at the child’s welfare as its paramount consideration. Involvement of both parents is something the Court will encourage unless the contrary is shown.
